The Vegas Golden Knights, who are purportedly seeking to bolster their roster with an injured player, may receive assistance from the Vancouver Canucks.
Teams throughout the National Hockey League are starting to finalize their rosters in advance of the October 7th, 5 p.m. ET submission deadline as the 2024-25 season draws near.
Teams must submit their rosters by the deadline and adhere to the cap, which prohibits them from spending more than $88 million on players for the 2024-25 season. This implies that some teams-possibly including the Vegas Golden Knights-will have to make a few moves in order to comply with the cap by opening night.
The Vegas Golden Knights may try to trade for an injured player that they can put on long-term injured reserve (LTIR) for the regular season in order to get under $88 million and avoid being in violation of the cap.
If Patrik Allvin feels he can gain something from this, the Vancouver Canucks are one team that could assist the Vegas Golden Knights. Tucker Poolman, who has been dealing with neurological complications from migraines for a few years, is not expected to play this coming season. The Canucks could trade Poolman.
Poolman will make $2.5 million a year for the remainder of his four-year contract. The Golden Knights may receive Poolman from the Canucks in exchange for a 2025 draft pick-possibly a third or fourth round selection.
Prior to opening night, the Canucks will also need to resolve their own cap issues, as PuckPedia indicates that they only have $90,833 in available space.
It will be interesting to watch what other teams near the cap have planned in the next few days. As teams try to stay under the $88 million cap, there may be a lot of activity on the waiver wire and possibly through trades.
