Expert insider confirms Maple Leafs prospect is a guaranteed roster spot
According to one scout, Jacob Quillan, one of the Toronto Maple Leafs' lesser-known prospects, might have a major impact starting next season.
Over the last three seasons with Quinnipiac University, Jacob Quillan progressed notably from an average freshman year to a standout sophomore season with 19 goals and 38 points in 41 games.
He then raised his game further, notching 46 points in 39 games before joining the Toronto Maple Leafs. While his undrafted status might limit his NHL prominence, a scout believes his strong base could ensure he becomes a valuable depth asset.
Jacob Quillan, one of my favourite prospects in the Leafs system, blends NHL size, speed, winning DNA, & defensive IQ with an insane work rate on the forecheck to this prospect pool. Offensive upside is limited due to lack of on puck dynamism but a lock to play NHL games for me.
The scout is particularly hopeful about Quillan's potential to join the team this season, suggesting he could be a viable call-up option if other young players falter. His style of play might even make him a favorite for new head coach Craig Berube.
I'm pretty optimistic about it. His game is almost a perfect fit for any NHL bottom 6. NHL size, plays C, defensive responsible with great speed and forechecking in addition to a north and south approach to his game? Sounds like Berube's dream player 😂
However, Quillan faced challenges transitioning to the AHL last season, appearing in only 10 games with a single assist and a -9 rating. Yet, he has also shown his clutch potential, notably scoring the game-winning goal in the 2023 NCAA tournament final, accompanied by a memorable Teemu Selanne-style celebration.

Will Quillan earn a spot in the NHL next season? How many games will he play, and will he establish himself as a consistent member of the lineup? These questions will be addressed as the season progresses.
