Penguins staff accidentally leaks email that announces the signing of top UFA
Surprisingly, the Pittsburgh Penguins are set to sign veteran forward Vladimir Tarasenko, accidentally revealed in an email to season ticket holders.
The email, originally aimed at updating fans on team activities, contained a surprising statement: "Vladimir Tarasenko is now part of the Penguins." Here's the full excerpt:
A couple major updates to kick off the week! Ned is back. Vladimir Tarasenko is a Penguin. Six new prospects from the 2024 NHL Draft. Free Agency is now underway. And today, our official schedule has been released. Is it October yet?!
Home Opener: October 9th, 7:30pm. The New York Rangers come to town to open the season. November is 'stuffed' with home games. Get your 'fixings' of hockey ahead of the holiday rush with matchups against Dallas, Detroit, and the new Utah Hockey Club. Catch the #1 overall draft pick Macklin Celebrini and the Sharks on November 16th. Defending Stanley Cup Champion Florida Panthers on December 3rd. The Battle of Cole Harbour when Nathan MacKinnon comes to town with his Colorado Avalanche on December 10th. Enemy Washington Capitals and Philadelphia Flyers both come to town in February on the 22nd and 27th!» Comms wouldn't get authorization to send out text like this just based on reports, FWIW. It needs to go through several levels of internal authorization to get okayed to send.
It appears that Stanley Cup champion Tarasenko will be joining the Penguins, consistent with earlier reports by The Athletic's Josh Yohe that GM Kyle Dubas had extended him a contract offer.
Hearing Penguins made an offer to Vladimir Tarasenko. Only have around $4.3 million in cap space. Other teams have interest in him, obviously.
UPDATE
HEADED TO THE TARASENK-SHOW!
The #RedWings today signed forward Vladimir Tarasenko to a two-year contract with an AAV of $4.75M.
