Encouraging news emerges for Montreal Canadiens fans as new reports hightlight that Patrik Laine is still in Finland's plans for the Four Nations Tournament.

Due to a knee injury he suffered during a preseason game on September 28, the Montreal Canadiens forward has not yet played this season. He was anticipated to miss two to three months.

According to Finland's general manager, Patrik Laine is still essential for the Four Nations Showdown in February even though he did not play in the National Hockey League (NHL) in 2024.

The tournament is held in Montreal and Boston from February 12-20, and its rosters are composed solely of NHL players. Finland is joined in the field by the US, Canada, and Sweden. Early in December, the 23-player rosters for each team will be revealed. Lehtinen is unconcerned about Laine's lack of game action by the roster deadline.

«At this point, there is another month and we'll see where we are at, for everybody,» Lehtinen told NHL.com during the 2024 NHL Global Series Finland presented by Fastenal. «It's about health and how the players look and how they are playing. When it is time, then we'll know. Right now, we haven't made any decisions.»

Laine's case is intriguing. He is one of the League's most gifted players and could give Team Finland more offensive punch. He has 16 points (eight goals, eight assists) in 24 Stanley Cup Playoff games for Winnipeg and 388 points (204 goals, 184 assists) in 480 NHL regular-season games with the Winnipeg Jets and Columbus Blue Jackets.

«It's too bad for him, of course, with how the last season went, and it would have been nice to see how he would have played this season in Montreal,» Lehtinen said. «Hopefully he comes back soon. Everybody wants to see him.»

Given the information that is currently circulating, Laine is likely to be added to the roster. He might also be skating with Roope Hintz, Mikko Rantanen, Sebastian Aho, and Aleksander Barkov, to mention a few.

«With these guys here, a couple of them are already in the team, but everybody knows how good the rest of the players on these two teams are, so we'll see when we pick the team,» Lehtinen said. «But it's a no-brainer that they are pretty close to making the team.»

Laine has scored 12 points (seven goals, five assists) in 13 senior-level matches for the national team. Hopefully he will recover on time and turn things around for the Montreal Canadiens and play with Finland at the Four Nations.
