Earlier this week, reports emerged that John Klingberg was attempting to return to the NHL after he underwent hip re-surfacing surgery over the offseason.
As it turns out, those reports were correct. Initially, Klingberg was linked to several teams including the Toronto Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers.
Of course, Toronto is where the Swedish blueliner spent last season before it ended early due to his injuries.
Unfortunately for the organization, this time they lost on on him to their Western Canadian counterpart.
Klingberg was not very effective for the Maple Leafs last season, but that was largely due to his injury issues.
If he can return to form from just a few years ago, he could be a very valuable addition to the Oilers, especially if he signs a league-minimum contract.
We are still waiting on the details of the deal to be announced, so be sure to stay tuned to find out what the deal will look like.
Most likely this will be a one-year deal at or near league minimum, but we cannot say that for sure until it is announced.
Klingberg has 81 career goals and 412 points in 633 career regular-season NHL games. Last season he had 5 assists in 14 games with the Leafs.
